Jun aoki & associates's three-storey 'm house' is positioned on a corner site which measures 10.65m x 10.41m, with a height which reaches 9.90m, the highest point being the tower which stands at 12.75m. the monolithic volume resembles that of enclosed box, surrounded by frames of reinforced concrete which pronounce the geometry of the design further. the exterior is treated with a thermal insulation of 40mm expanded polystyrene in which a black coating of plaster is applied.
The trapezoidal plan is composed of seven interior terraces which run along the perimeter of the building, each connecting two rooms to create openness, as well as sufficient ventilation within the dense space. each of the platformed sections vary in size and function and are separated from the main living areas by large, glass sliding doors. one is situated on the ground level adjacent to the entrance (1.8m x 1.2 x H 2.8 m). on the second floor there are three: one leads off a bedroom with washroom en suite (1.5m x 8.4m x H21.6m), another with a bathroom and closet (0.8m x 1.9m x H2.1m), and a third leading to a writing room and bedroom (0.7m x 3.6m x H2.6m). the top floor features a triangular shaped terrace (3.7m x 4.9m x H5.7m) which corner faces the living room at a 90 degree angle, with the last adjacent to the living room and kitchen.
