In an ambiguously planned urban setting in pontevedra, spanish firm ACXT arquitectos has set out to re-establish a clearer infrastructural logic through the renovation of the town's old 'pasaron stadium'. beginning with the size of the pitch, the reinforced concrete ring that forms the new structure is a two-story continuation of the public street, with amenities and services located peripherally around the field accessible from the interior and exterior.
As the stadium is fully functioning all year, the construction needed to be planned in sections so as not to disturb the scheduled agenda for the 11,000 spectators. basing the new structure on a series of frames in parallel, work could commence in targeted areas without disturbing the stadium as a whole and creates a spatial porosity whereby pedestrian traffic and various programmatic elements can traverse the build ring from the public realm to the field.
