Entrepreneurship can be a daunting endeavor filled with long hours and hard work - but at the end of the day the home proves to be a much needed respite. in some cases, however, the office is at home or in a detached villa as is the case with the private residence in veldhoven. dutch practice O+A finished a new hybrid conference center and parking garage extension off of a detached 1970's villa. through a rather sobering process, the roof was formed as a result of various zoning regulations and takes on a rather unique nature compared to its host structure.
Sizable warm-toned wooden glulam beams provide structural support as they fold into parallel frames. glass panels enclose the acclimatized work area also characterized by the spaced timber members, supported over two open-air parking areas. the aesthetic expression of the structure and enclosing envelope is seen repeated throughout the project on a variety of scales which, while visually separating the construction from the existing home, maintain a rationally consistent language.
