Organized as a series of one-storey pavilions around a central exterior courtyard, the 'can felic nursery' by spanish practices estudio fernandez-vivancos and abalosllopis creates an efficiently-functioning infant care center that is at the same time comfortable and suitable for education as well. the composition of the project is akin to that of a family, with individual members that retain their own identities but work together to function as a whole.each structure is a cast-in-place concrete shear wall system with a one-way slab roof construction that lets in light in the gaps between the beams.two rooms are grouped around a service area that serves each function efficiently. the facades are marked by a series of variously-sized windows and large panoramic frames that help shade the direct sunlight. rich natural wood is used for framing the different apertures throughout the design and injects a contrasting palette to the otherwise hard interior. earth tones provide an inviting tranquil atmosphere while the bright yellow courtyard colorfully juxtaposes the vibrant green of the surrounding trees and lawn that hide the nursery from its urban context.
