'Casa itu' by acclaimed brazilian practice studio arthur casas organizes its spaces in horizontal layers stretched across the banks of a lake, keeping a low profile despite the rather generous proportions. several connections to the exterior embrace a dynamic relationship with the interior program that also pays homage to the preserved existing ipe tree on site. the footprint takes on the form of an L, with the children's rooms, living room and home theater on the ground floor and the master suite and gym on the top floor along the longitudinal axis. the shorter wing houses a kitchen, dining room and services below the guest rooms, with a wrap-around veranda and retractable glass doors that make the living rooms and hallways part of the landscape. a warm wooden palette defines the interior floors and ceilings, with an earth-toned cumaru timber cladding emphasizing the horizontality of the exterior envelope. the kitchen area by contrast has a stone floor base that spills out onto a continued patio that strengthens communication to the outside.
