以出产大闸蟹而闻名的阳澄湖畔，近年来快速兴建起大量新住宅区，建筑风格无可避免的都是不加思索的仿古典园林建筑的式样。这个会所项目就位于这些的街区环境中。 LWMA被委托将其中一个别墅改建成一个结合接待、居住、休闲的综合性会所，一个只有5个客房的小型酒店。面对现有场址中过于拥挤的传统苏州园林的元素和原建筑矫饰的外观，LWMA重新思考了传统园林的类型学，以及如何进行现代的重新诠释和改造。 The project is located nearby Yangcheng Lake which at northeast of Suzhou as a most famous of origin for Chinese mitten crabs which considered as a delicacy. Along the lake, a lot of new housing complexes emerged, all built in a fast pace with unquestioned false Chinese traditional garden house style. LWMA was commissioned to renovate one of the houses into a multi-function accommodation which integrates lounge,spa and 5 guestrooms served as an exclusive micro hotel. Confronting the existing site with excessive traditional Suzhou garden elements and turned out a pretentious appearance, LWMA reconsidered the typology of traditional garden and transited it with modern interpretation.

原来的20m×30m的矩形建筑放置于周围精致小品式的古典景观中，显得生硬臃肿。设计师所用的策略是，在大致保留外部景观的前提下，在建筑中心挖空出5m×10m的空间，以削弱原建筑过于庞大的体量感；同时利用这个空间，植入一个设计语汇更现代清冷的内部庭院， 于是整个建筑便如同一个通透的回廊置身于一个内外迥异的景观中。 With an existing traditional landscape surrounding along the perimeter, designer created a modern inner courtyard by carving out the center core of the building to break down the massive. It suddenly became a continuous ambulatory placed in nature with in sequence of distinct views on both sides.

在底层，引用古典园林设计中动观的手法，通过将走廊动线围绕沿内庭院循环，大部分公共性空间（餐厅、厨房、大厅）以开放自由的平面形式分布，采用透明或半透明的材料分隔，形成了内外界限模糊和流动性的空间。行走在一楼，宛如漫步在隐喻的庭园，两侧传统和现代两种风格的造园互相交织渗透是一场观看流动的风景的体验。 所有的私密空间（客房、卫生间）分配在二楼。设计师精心考虑每间客房的隐私而采用更封闭的实墙和移门系统，灵活控制各空间的开合联系，同时又蓄意保持与景观的联系。每个空间都有专属的户外空间。室内空间与框景的关系成了设计的重点，通过精心的测试窗洞位置和比例，对应特定的窗外景色。与底层相反，二楼是一场静观的体验。 By placing interior circulation around inner courtyard, most public area are allocated on ground floor with loose boundary and layout, the inside and outside blurs and dynamically flows into spaces. Walking around ground floor is a long garden stroll, a dazzling experience of in motion viewing. On the other hand, all private zones - guestrooms and bathrooms are laid out on second floor. Designers carefully considered the privacy of each room, yet kept notion of public and nature for every space with delicately planed views and exclusive outdoor space. The composition and proportion of windows were thoroughly tested out, framing views to seen from particular spots. As opposite to ground floor, the experience of the private floor becomes a surprising discovery of seizing in position views.

（上图）围绕庭院是一圈回廊 在这个设计中，LWMA 不是简单地复制一个过去的时代的美丽的形式，而是运用精细的现代材料组合创造传统的南方建筑含蓄而优雅的氛围。占主导地位的白色空间中，用暗色古铜边框点缀细节，形成去物质化的诗意。胡桃木色的板条天花板，唤起人们对于民居中木梁桁架的记忆。 通过各方面的努力，最终营造出一个均衡宜居的会所空间。 Instead of simply copy the beautiful form of a past era, LWMA employed exquisite composition of materials in modern formation to provoke the subtle and elegant atmosphere of a traditional south-east house. Dominated white rules the spaces embellished with black frame details as a dematerialize poetry, the walnut louver ceiling appeals the memory of wooden trusses in rural house. By all the efforts, the building results in a sensitive balance among people, space and environment, and an inviting hospitality space.
