Cadence, an architecture studio based in Bangalore,India, have shared their completed dialysis center‘KYMF’ based adjacent to an ancient Indian temple in a historic neighborhood of the city.
The studio was approached to build the health clinic containing 30 beds; its unusual location with its high religious value initially posed a challenge to the method the designers would take. The new build created as a sensitive backdrop to the existing scenario to allow the intricate and prestigious temple to continue to be the focus of the context. The folding white façade was formulated by masonry techniques. The sculptural and ethereal quality portraying a contemporary and graceful take on its spiritual context. Emphasized by the the slivers between the shells that invite natural light to permeate into the internal spaces and create a spatial and visual feel that is as divine as the temple outside.

As the given plot is relatively small in relation to the required program, the design team decided to stack the wards vertically to accommodate the thirty beds. Meanwhile, the structure was detached from the ground to become congregational and waiting spaces for patients. Additionally, the services were organized to the rear of the plan, with the terrace designated as the cafeteria space.
