The Core Healthy
Almost 30 years ago Bureau B + B designed the master plan for the redesign of the inner city. The vision is based on five sphere lines, each with their own spatial character. The center line connected the different zones. Each sphere line was given a recognizable identity, so that the inner city was forged into a coherent whole. De Kern Gezond was trendsetting for the upgrading of the Dutch inner cities.
The Core Special
In 2016, the Municipality of The Hague will make a sequel to De Kern Gezond: De Kern Bijzonder. The spatial ambience lines have been supplemented with five atmospheric areas that form a functional, economic unit. The heart line is transformed into a pedestrian-friendly area; cars and trams are largely diverted. Bureau B + B participated in the new memorandum and is currently developing a sketch design for the redesign of the Hartlijn.
The Heart line
De Hartlijn is the backbone of De Kern Bijzonder. It ensures coherence in the multifaceted city center and serves as a natural route between highlights of the court city. At the same time, the Hartlijn itself must also be a pleasant place to stroll. The revaluation of the Hartlijn acts as a flywheel for the upgrading of the entire city center of The Hague.
Shared Space Boulevard
Reducing car traffic makes it possible to turn the heart line into a shared space boulevard. In this shared space, the bicycle, public transport and destination traffic jointly use a subtly indicated middle runner. In addition, generous sideboards for pedestrians are created. The axis is transformed from a room for access to a space for strolling and staying.
Full-fledged squares
In the places where the central line intersects squares, the design of the street is more dominant than the design of the squares. The squares have thus become subordinate. In the proposed situation, the squares are not fragmented by the lanes, but the lane runs quietly across the square. The squares fill the entire space and present themselves on the route of the center line.
