Ukranian architect igor sirotov has presented his residential concept 'chair house' that aims to provide a comfortable peaceful domestic environment contrasting the harsh rocky landscape in which it is situated. a concrete stronghold embedded into the rugged escarpment contains a protected program below grade. the living room is accessible by descending an exterior staircase, and is lit indirectly from above, with smaller skylights accenting the deeper spaces. the bedroom is instead exposed to the harsh outdoors, located on a higher level with full-length windows that bring the ocean-scape to the interior. a palette of exposed concrete, natural wood floors and dark stone panels create a strong relaxing atmosphere, setting up a dark neutral backdrop for the contrastingly characteristic furnishings.
