The idea for 'baan moom' designed by thai architectural firm IF (integrated field co. ltd.) came from the owner's love of nature and open spaces. located in bangkok, the 400 sqm house was built next to their old one and there is also 150 sqm of outdoor space and landscaping. 'baan moom' meaning 'corner house' has both corners for sharing and for privacy, which can be seen throughout the project, there are two types - individual (mainly private bedrooms) and common, open spaces.
On the ground floor a large living room flows to the deck and swimming pool beyond - blurring the boundary between inside and outside. baan moon's functions are spread over three levels: one master bedroom and bathroom, two regular bedrooms and two bathrooms for their sons, a living/dining area, a working room, open kitchen, thai kitchen and a lap pool. another main characteristic of the house is the 'stairs hall', a triangular volume that connects the spaces on each floor with a rooftop skylight above. this provides natural light throughout the void, right down to the living space on the first floor and not only circulates ventilation through to each room, it is also an important visual connection for family members.
The house creates a sensory experience for its inhabitants as materials have been applied with great attention to detail - steel window/door frames are used to create a smaller profile so they are barely visible. a large set of sliding doors can be tucked away into the walls on both sides of the living room, opening the space to the outside.
