Chilean studio panorama arquitectos has shared with us images of their single family residence on a cliff in matanzas 65 meters above sea level. the ‘d house’ is contained within a regular square volume clad in white wooden planks, keeping a subtle profile against the sea-scape.
Large voids of various sizes are carved out from the exterior envelope creating indoor and outdoor nooks, terraces, and assuring a well-lit interior with different views of the surrounding site. the top level containing the private rooms, by contrast, is rotated 45 degrees from the grid established by the footprint and ground floor.
This simple and effective move creates double-height spaces and opens new relationships to the external environment, blocking the wind that may come from different angles throughout the seasons and providing new places of refuge from the sun.
