The complexity of the existing urban tissue in Seoul is an inspiration for the project. The city is constantly confronting tensions between developments creating urban situations where various types of housing –many times of opposite nature- coexist one next to the other. Somehow, the city manages to absorb these tensions and creates aunique balance of imperfections.
Gongdeok Housing is a dwelling development for young people in the city center of Seoul. The project tries to provide various housing typologies in a complex configuration that aspires to reproduce some of the urban character of Seoul. Thecomplexity in typology is also a reflection of noble ways of living in South Korea.
The project proposes three building typologies, each of them with a different community and privacy proposition. The first type is the most community orientated where all units are sharing a wood deck and a large patio that acts as entrance to each unit. The second typology reproduces the old tissue of Seoul’s streets with a longitudinal organization along a new strip. Finally, two dwelling towers are proposed for the neighbors who are looking for a higher degree of privacy.
这三种住宅类型通过一个大型的平台广场相互连接,平台广场中还包括一些社区公共活动空间和停车功能。
All three typologies are interconnected by a large podium-plaza that includes some community services as well as the parking.
Density
600 dwellings distributed in two different densities: mid-low density below the new park and high density housing organized in two towers above the park level.
Community
Three levels of relationships among neighbors are proposed. The young type dwellings are distributed along a central plaza and shares circulation and community spaces. The Street Type houses connect to the street’s calmer life and the Tower Type proposes more privacy among its neighbors.
