Appreciation towards Junquera Arquitectos for providing the following description:
THE CONVERSION OF THE OBSOLETE MALAGA’S HARBOR SPRINGS AS OPPORTUNITY:1. - INVESTIGATE using the Palm as generating living spaces chaired by the regulation of the shadow.2 - THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A REFERENCE SPACE THE CITY OF MALAGA LACKS, formalized as a street that gets the connection of the city with the harbor water film, which starts in the center of the old town and ends in “La Farola”, the lighthouse entrance to the Port, a pedestrian which gradually transits from the narrow, gloomy streets, to the blue, infinite horizon of the sea.A tour to rediscover the sea from the city and to the contrary, the profile of the city from the sea.
MEDITERRANEAN PARK, SHADOW and PLANT SPACE
The proposal arises from the search for answers to these three challenges: trying to find explicit references with unsuccessful results, find tips andfinally, generate unique models that we believe will open up a range of future performances.
We were looking for a model for a Mediterranean park. After analyzing the Arabian garden, all Mediterranean gardens studied had a more domesticcharacter.
Looking, find the reference model farms in the Mediterranean, on the Draa River Valley in Morocco and in the few remaining in Elche, in which thepalm is the crop structure element in 20m. x 20m grids, and the palm plantations having separations of 3m. The size of these grids is the result of the millennial experience, creating a microclimate protected against sun and wind necessary for subsistence crops in a climate as hard as North Africa.
This grid provides a sequence of spaces bounded by the stems of palms and their tops, forming EMPTY SCENIC SPACES treated as different gardens, agricultural plantations replacing uses for the stay, leisure or recreation, clothed with plantations of different size, texture, flowering period, smells, color ...
This model makes the Park spatial order as both a sub sequence diversity of different activities spaces and under a continuous blanket shade reinforced by a second order generated by the various plantations which are arranged inside the grids.
THE DOUBLE CONDITION OF GARDEN AND PROMENADE,After solving the model garden is necessary over the shadow that must accompany the walk. Sunny in winter, shade in summer. We designed a structure that met this condition generating the walker clothing shadow along the 500 m of the ride. An undulating canopy sequencesimilarity of awnings that protect the streets of Toledo, Seville and Malaga’s Calle Larios.A high level of irregular trace generates a space that is perceived as a large vault.
We designed a mixed structure of steel beams and pillars decomposed into slender small pillars like bamboos, to convey an image of lightness andtransparency despite its important structural conditions, 11 m high, 25m apart.
This steel beam hangs slats sequence traces varied 14m in length, 18 cm in thickness and drape varying between 20 cm and 2.50 m.
