The design for the new building of the school and kindergarten of Afers matches the requirement of the village and its community for integrating a modern and contemporary educational institution into the existing local framework. On a small plateau, just right in the middle of the village, the two buildings of the are appear as a compact structure. Just like the vernacular building of these mountain regions, they also lean their weight to the hillside. The position of the two main structures is linked by a multi-purpose hall, which serves also the public. The generously open spaces surrounding the school, act as a children’s playground and sports area. Furthermore, these spaces become, by the additional element of an open-air stage, the favoured character of a general usable meeting place of the town of Afers. The colour and material concept is performing a reduced appearance, regarding the size and volume of the building. It underlines the harmonious integration into the surrounding of the village. White plastered facades, which structure has been kept rough, give direct contrast to the dark anodized window frames.
