Dialogue with nature
The building has two floors and an area of about 2000 square meters. Surrounding the central courtyard, a transparent cube with a simple and tense style in dialogue with nature is created, which blends into the surrounding environment.
The design aims to reduce energy consumption and the building's pressure on nature, maximize the creation of high-quality office space.
The all-wood main structure realizes the natural fusion of buildings and materials. Compared with concrete and steel, wooden structures require less water and energy during the production process.
The beam and column structures are all exposed to minimize the demand for finishes and also bring a sense of rhythm to the interior space. Let visiting customers understand the structure and load transfer of the building, and appreciate the beauty brought by the pure structure.
The high-efficiency double-glazed curtain wall on the façade regulates the indoor micro-climate while also making the building more closely connected with the surrounding landscape. The thin metal sheet roof adopts an asymmetrical shape and stretches like a sail, which can shield the façade from rain and the hot summer sun, adjust the indoor temperature, and reduce the energy consumption of the building.
High-quality environment
The external facade is a full glass curtain wall, which fits with Iperceramica's open and efficient corporate culture. People can appreciate the indoor working environment when they are outdoors, and welcome customers to experience the building with a welcoming attitude.
A vibrant green courtyard is set in the center of the building, where various trees and shrubs are planted to bring the scenery of the four seasons, while improving the quality of the air and office environment, and enhancing the happiness of employees. The central courtyard serves as a green buffer zone for the building, forming a microclimate and saving the energy required for passive indoor cooling.
The building pays attention to the penetration of natural light, and through the treatment of different natural light in the building, the office needs are solved. The indoor space is divided by screen-printed glass. While ensuring privacy, sight and natural light can pass through. Offices, corridors, meeting rooms and other spaces do not require artificial lighting during the day, saving a lot of energy.
Green hanging sail roof
Based on the research of base location and sunshine, a suspended sail roof with both function and aesthetic came into being.
In order to adjust the light radiation of the glass curtain wall and protect the inner working space from direct sunlight, a large cover cantilevered sail is extended from the roof edge of the outer wall to reduce the entry of direct light.
Different from other symmetrical cantilevered roofs, through the analysis of the local sun direction and sunshine, the design adopts different distances of cantilever to flexibly manage the direct light according to the needs of sunshine and indoor space. This unique functional design gives the building a high degree of recognizability and becomes a new green landmark in Modena.
Linear lighting is set under the roof to highlight the asymmetric horizontal hanging sails, visually separating the building from the roof. The suspended sail adopts translucent perforated panels to realize the concealment of the roof structure to eliminate the discomfort of the exposed steel structure and enhance the overall simplicity.
Low-carbon building materials
In the face of the global climate crisis, wooden structures help reduce the carbon emissions of buildings, and more than half of high-carbon buildings are concrete structures and 1/3 are steel structures. The building uses an advanced wooden structure to create an office environment in a simple and environmentally friendly way, which significantly reduces the embodied carbon and greatly reduces the carbon emissions of the building. At the same time, the wood structure adopts integrated design, which greatly shortens the construction time and cost, and ensures the quiet and tidy construction site.
The load-bearing structure uses prefabricated components of laminated wood, and the ceiling is set with a series of slats of approximately 12 x 12 cm. The transparent space and wooden structure are clearly displayed in front of you, deducing the warmth and beauty of wood. The all-glass curtain wall extends to each floor, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building, creating a high-quality indoor environment.
Maximize sustainability
From an environmental point of view, the preferred material for construction is wood, and a dry and easy-to-disassemble solution is adopted, which has less impact on the environment. The design principle of DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) is adopted to greatly shorten the construction period, reduce costs, and reduce the use of raw materials, pollution and industrial accidents.
In addition, the building adopts a variety of energy-saving and emission-reduction measures to reduce environmental pollution and reduce energy consumption. Solar photovoltaic panels are installed on the roof, and the converted electric energy can offset part of the energy consumption of the building. The underground cistern collects rainwater from the roof and uses it for the automatic irrigation system of the central courtyard and clean water for the building. The exterior of the building, sidewalks and parking lots are illuminated with anti-glare lamps and low electric poles to fix the downward light emission direction to reduce light pollution.
