Vasily Klyukin envisions airplane-shaped library in homage to author Richard Bach

Vasily Klyukin has shared his latest architectural vision — a radiant glass library that pays homage to American author Richard Bach. The design of the building takes the shape of a 1920s-style airplane, with an all-glass body, diagonally positioned wings and metallic propeller. On the edge of the propeller sits a large bird — a direct reference to one of Bach’s most loved books, ‘Jonathan Livingston seagull’.

The novella, one of Klyukin’s favorites, tells the story of a seagull learning about life and flight, conveying simple truths about individually and identity. This timeless classic inspired Klyukin to imagine a library in Bach’s name, forming a place for visitors to experience the author’s work and philosophical ideas.Books are contained within a large reading room under the one of the wings, while the other forms a shelter for an open-air cafe hidden beneath.

It’s one of my favorite books ever,Klyukin says of ‘Johnathan Livingston seagull’. ‘You must read it every five years. After creating ‘Richard Bach library’, I sent images to the author, requesting him to sign a book, but I got more — an invitation to visit his house. I cancelled everything and booked tickets immediately. It’s incredible to have a flight on this craft, and it inspired me to create this concept.’
