TYIN tegnestue architects embeds timber cottage into the rugged terrain in Norway

Sitting amidst marshland and adjacent to the ocean, this modest-sized timber cottage is a sustainably considered dwelling designed by TYIN tegnestue architects. Sited in the west of Norway, the cottage itself has a unique cultural place in contemporary norwegian culture due to its relation to traditional occupations such as fishing, lumbering and farming. The scheme maintains this closeness to nature.

TYIN tegnestue建筑事务所利用脆弱的景观和地形的敏感性着手设计。结构位于海平面21米以上，与海平面的距离为100米，并与基岩相融合。木屋建立在混凝土基础上，由螺栓相接的木墙、梁构天花板建立起框架，表皮的装饰采用业主所有的森林里的云杉。这种覆盖层在自然的条件下最终会反应出银色的光泽。

TYIN tegnestue architects approached the design with sensitivity to the fragile landscape and terrain. The structure lies 21 meters above sea level, and the distance to the sea front is 100 meters and in turn, it has been integrated with the bedrock. The building rests on a concrete base and the frame has been constructed from stud work timber walls, beamed ceilings and finished with an envelope of spruce harvest from the client’s own forest. This cladding will eventually react to the elements and naturally attain a silver patina.

The same timber panels have been used within internal common areas, lending the scheme a sense of continuity. Segregated to three different levels including a mezzanine, the differentiated heights determine the kitchen, living room and bedroom functions of the main space.
