Form the architect:dot Architects recently completed a Low-poly style indoor playground for children in Beijing.Located in a shopping mall, Mitty Jump provides playground and early education for children under 7 along with catering services.
Beijing is a mega city, therefore most of the playgrounds for children are set within an artificial environment, like department store, shopping mall, roof tops and etc.. These indoor playgrounds are usually camouflaged with painted blue sky, concrete sprayed trees and plastic green plants, assuming children will enjoy anything naturalistic no matter how fake it is. dot Architects is against this illusive nature. We believe children are capable of telling the difference between real nature and its inferior mockery. The design strategy of Mitty Jump is transforming natural figures into low-poly geometries, using the abstraction as both the bridge and separation between man-made and natural environment.A series of folded roof defines the entrance and three classrooms. The low-poly trees and hills for children to play is made of dense foam with bright colors. The low-poly-division pattern of floor spreads from the folded roof entrance and rolls up to become a faceted hill at the end of the playground, connecting all the other low-poly objects in between.
