The use of glass in architecture has become very popular in recent years and is synonymous with the “corporate look.” Glass is durable, versatile and not very susceptible to weathering, making it an excellent building material. While it’s not uncommon to see high-rise offices completely coated in shiny glass, these 7 buildings have broken architectural boundaries and demonstrate just how far it can go.

Selgas Cano建筑师事务所

     这个标志性的玻璃胶囊建筑坐落在西班牙森林里。墙壁和天花板全部由玻璃做成,能让员工体验大自然,一年四季保持与周围环境合拍。


Selgas Cano Architecture Office
This iconic glass capsule building is housed among the Spanish forest. The walls and ceilings are made entirely of glass, allowing workers to experience nature and remain in-tune with their surroundings throughout each of the four seasons.

西尔斯大厦玻璃阳台

       西尔斯大厦 (又称韦莱集团大厦) 既令人恐惧又动人心魄。这个建筑立于芝加哥,高1353英尺,可以眺望全城。当然不是每个人都适合在这些阳台上迈步;但是它的美丽和超凡的设计技术无可争议。


Sears Tower Glass Balconies
The Sears Tower (aka Willis Tower) is both terrifying and breath taking. The building stands at a height of 1,353 feet above Chicago and overlooks the entire city. Taking a step on these balconies certainly isn’t for everybody; however, one can’t argue with the beauty and technical prowess of the design.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City is a block-style building that’s built among a Roman-esque backdrop. The building is completely covered in frosted glass and is illuminated from each inside corner.

中国国家大剧院

       这个巨大的圆顶建筑能够容纳5452人,位于北京天安门附近。它由建筑师Paul Andreu设计,被认为是中国历史上最伟大的建筑之一。最令人印象深刻的元素之一是它建在一个大的人工湖中,湖水映照着整个建筑。


National Grand Theatre of China
This massive dome has a seating capacity of 5,452 and is located near Tiananmen Square in Beijing. It is considered one of the greatest architectural works in China’s history and was designed by Paul Andreu. One of the most impressive elements is that it was constructed within a large artificial lake, which reflects the entire building.

卢浮宫金字塔


       卢浮宫金字塔是世界上最知名的玻璃建筑,位于卢浮博物馆的入口。建筑高70英尺,由673块玻璃构建而成。游客要进入必须先下到地下,然后回到卢浮宫主建筑。这个建筑因为无缝结合了现代和古典建筑风格而经常受到赞扬。


The Louvre Pyramid
The Louvre Pyramid is one of the most recognizable glass structures in the world and stands at the entrance of the Louvre Museum. The building is 70 feet high and is constructed out of 673 glass sections. To enter visitors must descend below-ground before being taken back up to the main building. The structure is often praised for seamlessly combining both modern and classical architecture.

神奈川工科大学

       这个建筑是玻璃制品产生以来最伟大的作品之一。它坐落于日本,应用了一些世界上最伟大的思想。它的建立与典型的办公空间相去甚远。其极简的古怪的内部结构完美融入了童话般的风格,是新思想的完美催化剂。


Kanagawa Institute of Technology
This building is one of the greatest pieces of glasswork ever created. Situated in Japan and used by some of the world’s greatest minds; this establishment is a far cry from a typical office space. The simplistic, whimsical interior structure would blend perfectly in a fairy-tale and is the perfect catalyst for new ideas.

巴斯克卫生署总部

       巴斯克卫生署总部对很多人来说看起来不顺眼,但是对建筑师来说它展示了最好的创造力。这个独一无二的建筑由Coll-Barreu建筑设计事务所设计。尽管位于以建筑实验著称的西班牙毕尔巴鄂,其棱角分明的玻璃板仍使它成为世界上最先进的建筑物之一。


Basque Health Department Headquarters
To many, the Basque Health Department Headquarters is an eyesore, but to architects it demonstrates creativity at its best. Designed by Coll-Barreu, the building is certainly one of a kind. The angular glass panels make it one of the most progressive buildings in the world, even in its surroundings of Bilbao Spain, which is often considered an experimental hotspot.

Glass is without a doubt one of the most versatile materials in the world. From architectural standards, its use is still in its infancy, but with the recent construction of such magnificent buildings and the formation of glass specific architects – such as Cantifix– it’ll certainly be interesting to see how far this simple material can go in the future.
