Luxury Swiss watch brand hublot has opened its largest boutique store in the United States on new York’s fifth avenue.Located between 57th and 58th streets in the center of Manhattan, the new space has been designed by Peter Marino, and continues the collaboration between the architect and hublot. Externally, a faceted elevation is illuminated with LEDs and clad with powder coated black aluminum panels that rise 70 feet (21m) above the street. ‘The sculptural movement inherent in the façade is an abstract notion of time and the perpetual mechanism of the watch,’ explains Peter Marino.

Marino is also responsible for the project’s 1,500 square feet (139 sqm) interiors, where a dialogue is established between luxury materials and high-tech innovation. Black lava stone and wood floors are used alongside graphite-colored leather furnishings, glass, and polished stainless steel fixtures. Meanwhile, shadow-less LCD vitrine windows, carefully programmed lighting, and a wall of monitors contribute towards an engaging retail environment.

A 2014 painting by artist Albrecht Schnider was commissioned to reflect the precision of the hublot watch-making process, and the brand’s ‘abstract dynamism’.Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, commented: ‘Hublot is thrilled to share this exciting occasion with the city of new York, where our concept of the art of fusion comes to life in full form.We are excited to honor our new york city clients as we continue to expand our brand presence in the united states.’
