This Ralph Rapson home was built in the 1950s, and a young Red Oak tree was planted near the entryway, but as the years passed, the tree grew and the front door to the home became mostly obscured by the tree. This is when Minnesota-based CityDeskStudio, were asked to step in to help direct visitors around the tree and to the front door. They did this by creating a simple walkway from precast white concrete pavers that lead to the entryway of the home.
They didn’t want to damage the tree, so instead, they carved out a section of the concrete pavers to match the shape of the tree trunk, and they created a wood band that sits between the pavers and the tree.
By doing this, they not only protected the tree, but also created a unique feature for the entrance to the house and at the same time, softened the hard edge of the concrete.
