The Stockholm based architects pS Arkitektur have designed the new Swedish office for Skype. It is located in the München brewery in Stockholm - a 19th century red brick industrial complex now transformed into a cluster of offices, conference facilities and venue. pS Arkitektur helped Skype find this central and charming location, which attracts talented employees who wouldn't want to work in a bleak suburb. The Skype office houses about 100 employees, mainly engaging in developing audio- and video technology for the Skype platforms. The master plan and the interior design by pS Arkitektur reflect the Skype spirit - a joyful, user friendly tool connecting people all over the world. So is the space - playful and functional.

The triangular and rhomboid shapes of the carpet pattern, as well as the design of workplaces, tables and bar, are based on the concept of a net with connecting nodes. The colourful and round shapes of the furniture are derived from Skype's graphic profile. Also, the Skype logo, being a cloud, has been interpreted into cloud-like light fittings around the office - made up of clusters of large white spherical lamps. The office's focus on development of audio and video is manifested in a large number of custom designed wallpapers, in which pictures of headsets and cables, create patterns and brings an individual look to each room.

But the design of the Skype office is not only about what is visible to the naked eye. Skype values a playful work environment in which the employees are encouraged to think, play and generate creativity. The organization of the office optimizes the possibility for social meeting points as well as different possibilities for concentrated work. Instead of the old fashioned offices with cubicles, this office has a mix of regular desks in open office spaces, hot desks, seating areas, meeting rooms, conversation booths, play areas, cafés and silent areas. By organizing these in the right way, social meeting points have naturally appeared in the architecture. This creates a playful atmosphere that allows good, crazy and brilliant ideas to develop.

Finally, the office has been equipped with the newest in technology and it has the best acoustics possible, something that is necessary for this type of work. This is obtained by the use of textiles and a large number of wall mounted sound absorbers with and without prints.
