在布拉格的伏尔塔瓦河滨散步的人们很快都会被充满活力的咖啡店、俱乐部、工作室和小作坊所吸引。那里曾经有20个处于关闭状态的古代冰库，如今这座城市的心脏又重新跳动了起来。

Anyone walking along the banks of the Vltava in Prague today will soon be drawn to a lively surroundings of cafes, clubs, studios and workshops. Where once 20 ancient ice storage vaults were closed, the heart of the city beats today.

After a decade of development, petr janda and his firm ‘brainwork’ have completed an architectural revitalization of the prague riverfront. originally built as a quay and shipment point, the area was deserted after flooding in 2002 and had since been used as a car park. with gradual program activation, the design team has achieved a cultural and social revival within a public space of city-wide significance, along the ‘spinal cord’ of the city: the vltava river. on the regulated areas of the banks, the riverfront architecture becomes the backbone of the city, which through its individual embankments, holds the entire urban structure, or skeletal system, of the city.

with the revitalization of the prague riverfront, petr janda / brainwork focuses on the reconstruction of 20 vaults in the riverside wall, which had originally been used as areas for ice storage. rather than introducing classic interiors, the vaults are merged with the exterior with maximum contact with the riverfront. the vaults will serve as cafés, clubs, studios, workshops, galleries, a library branch, public restrooms, and other spaces for gathering. the design works with modular diversity, as the vaults are designed as a detailed base that includes all operational and technical facilities and a volume that can be shifted to different positions.



河滨的复兴表现在与仅存墙壁的原始建筑和谐融合的干预措施，该团队试图通过墙内空间的最大开口，引入与河滨最直接的联系。Rašín路堤上的六个圆形空间设有直径5.5米的椭圆形窗户。窗户可以机械式地打开，并依附于轴上旋转。设计意图给予最小的干预，但使用现代语言提升了现有的空间质量。

the revitalization of the riverfront expresses interventions that harmoniously merge with the original architecture of the existing wall. the team seeks to introduce the most direct connection with the riverfront area with the maximum opening between the spaces within the wall. Six of the vaults on the Rašín Embankment feature elliptical windows with a diameter of 5.5 meters. The windows can be opened mechanically and pivot on an offset axis to provide access to the interior spaces. the design is based on a minimal intervention, which adds little, but elevates the existing quality with a contemporary language.

"The interventions symbiotically merge with the original architecture of the riverside wall, into which they naturally fuse," the architect pointed out. "By using the acupuncture strategy, they re-create a monumental whole."
