As an important economic development zone for Shenzhen, Shekou boasts the Prince Bay with modern facilities blend and natural scenery, making it a popular destination for many travelers. In the area, the Garden City is one of the urban icons.

这座于2006年开幕的商业综合体,以近10万平方米的建筑体量,一度成为了片区最大的购物中心。随着时间推移,老旧的室内空间已无法为新一代的消费主力提供沉浸式的场景和新鲜的体验,这里亟需一场升级改造。受业主委托,Aedas执行董事林世杰带领团队,以建筑空间及内装的重塑,为蛇口花园城带来了一场新生。
Opened in 2006, this commercial complex, with a GFA of nearly 100,000 sq m, once became the largest shopping center in the area. Over time, the aging interior spaces could no longer provide immersive environments and fresh experiences for the new generation of consumers. Aedas Executive Director Ed Lam led the team to revitalise the Garden City to provide a contemporary retail destination filled with art, entertainment and leisure.

空间动线优化
Enhancement of the circulation
项目由两座空间差异较大的相连建筑构成,整座建筑由南至北长达280米。其中北门作为主入口,设有飞天扶梯,过大的设施对主中庭造成了遮挡,严重影响了首层及二层的空间体验。而室内中庭尺寸过长,且整体动线呈一字型,过长的单向动线限制了顾客方向的选择,极易产生疲倦感,影响购物体验。
The project consists of two interconnected buildings with significant spatial differences, stretching 280m from south to north. The original north entrance served as the main entrance and featured an express escalator, which obstructed the main atrium and affected the spatial experience on the first and second floors. The voids inside mall were excessively long, with a linear layout that created a lengthy one-way flow, leading to fatigue and poor shopping experience.

对此,团队将空间动线整体优化,拆除了原有的飞天扶梯,并重新调配室内扶梯布局,提升动线便捷性的同时,优化空间可视度,提升店铺的展示性。并拆除了中庭的电梯而增加连桥,通过多点连接加强顾客回流性的同时,形成主次中庭的划分,营造出更多休憩及活动展示空间。
The original express escalator was removed and the locations of the escalators were rearranged. The enhancement improves the circulation and increases the brand visibility of the shop fronts. Bridges are designed to connect visitors from different zones to create areas for leisure and exhibition.

重塑花园主题概念
Reshaping the ‘Garden’ theme
“花园城虽然以‘花园’为名,但原有的室内空间未能充分体现花园特色。我们希望借此次翻新,为片区构建一座有温情与生态活力的社区型购物中心。”Aedas执行董事林世杰说道。
‘The interior space of the original Garden City did not fully capture the essence of a “garden”. With this renovation, we aim to transform it into a community-oriented shopping centre that create a vibrant and inviting environment for the city.’ Ed shares.

面对周边大量的住宅区与便捷的交通网络,团队提出了全新的商业定位——都市生活艺术聚场——将艺术、生活、自然、审美作为核心元素,对建筑整体进行重塑。并选取“绿野芳踪”作为设计主题,打造了以花为媒的“梦幻花谷”﹑富有层次感的“漫光山色”﹑有着呼吸感的“觅境游湖”三大艺术场景,在新潮明亮的室内空间,营造沉浸式贴近自然的购物氛围。
In response to the surrounding developments and convenient transportation network, the design has transformed Garden City into a mixed-use hub to cater the emerging needs of the community. The ‘garden’ concept creates three major immersive zones: the iconic entrance with featured installation, the mixed-commercial retail lane and the high-end retail zone. These zones foster an immersive shopping atmosphere, allowing visitors to enjoy a harmonious blend of aesthetics and retail experience.

Renovation of north entrance
项目北区主入口是一个地标性的锥形玻璃空间,设计拆除了原本的飞天扶梯,在高挑通透的室内空间中,以“梦幻花谷”为主题,将鲜花抽象凝练,结合灯光线条围绕立柱营造花瓣形态的飘台设计,并在天花设有吊饰花朵的艺术装置形成呼应。自然光从锥形屋顶倾泻而下,仿佛山花烂漫的初春时分,在绽放中迎接每一位抵达的顾客。
The north entrance features an iconic conical space with glass panels over the ceiling and façade. By removing the original bulky express escalator, a spacious space is created as a welcoming entrance. Derived from the form of flowers, the columns are wrapped by light strips to create a petal-shaped ceiling feature. A hanging flower installation is designed on the ceiling to echo the flowery theme. Sunlight penetrates from the ceiling, evoking the vibrant blossoming flowers to welcome visitors.

原中庭空间狭长且密布着多个商铺,设计把空间回归公共活动,将儿童玩乐天地、主题溜冰场在内的多元活动主次有序编排,重塑坎道的空间节奏。并通过连桥将巨型空间有效划分,犹如花瓣形态的连桥,形成了有机的天花图案,将自然气息融入其中。而灯光则采用了灯胆及灯带形式,避免了筒灯的使用,以更自然、柔和的光线,凸显自然的随机形态,同时形成方向引导。
The original atrium was narrow and packed with shops, weakening the brand visibility and providing inefficient circulation for visitors. The renovation creates public space including kids’ zone and an ice-skating rink, thereby reshaping the spatial layout and atmosphere. The bridges weave different zonings through the pedal-form design, leading visitors to other areas of the mall. The featured lighting offers a natural and soft light environment, as well as a clear direction guidance.

Enhancement of south entrance
商场南区连接地铁的出口空间,主要由主力店组成。设计将其作为北区主中庭购物区的延续,天花以金属材质的波浪线条,勾勒出流水潆洄的生机勃勃,而流线型支柱则如天花的自然延伸。南北两区之间存在高差,设计将台阶打造成彩色的水波纹形态,并采用涟漪形态的灯槽与之形成呼应,营造出富有艺术感的休息过渡空间。
The south entrance connects to the metro exit and is composed of high-end retail stores extended from the main atrium in the north. The ceiling features metallic wave-like lines that evoke a vibrant flow of water, while the streamlined columns are natural extension of the ceiling. A colorful staircase is designed to connect the northern and southern areas, resembling the form of ripples and creating a relaxing atmosphere.

Humane Design
团队秉承以人为本的设计理念,周详考量空间细节,对购物体验进行整体的优化升级。设计对卫生间进行了全方位升级,并提升了通道的灯光照明,增设了茶水间、休息区、无障碍通道,旨在为片区居民着力打造一座温情生态活力之城,在系列互联空间中,提供具有人文关怀的宜人购物体验。
The renovation enhances the overall shopping experience, including the upgrade of restrooms and barrier-free access pathways to create a warm and vibrant city infused with humane design.

全新的蛇口花园城不仅提升了花园城整体的购物体验,还赋予了商场新的生命力,使其成为一个集艺术、生活、自然和审美于一体的都市生活艺术聚场。未来,花园城将继续引领潮流,化身片区生态社交中心,成为深圳乃至全国的购物和生活新地标。
The transformation optimises the shopping experience while promoting relaxation and social interaction. The design reinforces Garden City’s role as a dynamic hub for retail and leisure.
